Security Guarding (1902)

With the risk of criminal attack, terrorism and emergency situations, the role of a Security Officer is becoming increasingly more important and complex, with the need for training becoming more crucial.
Security Guard training is designed to help both private sector and public sector security officers develop their skills and prepare for the constant challenges in which they face during their role.
Security Guards work to ensure the safety and security of large sites, buildings, valuables and people. The work of a Security Guard may include:

Checking And Controlling People Who Enter Or Leave The Premises
Walking Around The Site
Escorting Cash Of Valuables In A Security Van
Watching CCTV Monitors
Searching Vehicles For Unauthorised Items
The training for this course is delivered in two units; the first being Roles and Responsibilities of a Security Guard and the second unit outlining Conflict Management for Security Guards.
There may be opportunities for progression into supervisory roles and into other areas of security work.

City & Guilds Approved Training

As well as the courses explained above, there are a number of training courses approved by City & Guilds.

NVQ Level 2 In Providing Security Services

Training for Level 2 NVQ in Providing Security Services allows individuals to demonstrate that they hold the necessary skills and knowledge in order for them to carry out their job correctly. The course has been designed for individuals who are already employed in the Private Security Industry. It covers all areas that are common to all Security Officers but also enables individuals to specialise in a specific security area.
To achieve the full qualification individuals are required to complete five mandatory units together with three optional units.
This course is completed whilst individuals are in employment. The course also aims to improve competency amongst employees.

NVQ Level 2 & 3 In Spectator Safety

The NVQ Level 2 in Spectator Safety aims to assess the competence of stewards. Individuals are expected to demonstrate ability in helping to manage conflict, deal with crowd problems, accident and emergencies and control the entry and exit of spectators. In order for individuals to achieve the fill NVQ, six mandatory units must be completed together with one additional unit is they wish.
NVQ Level3 in Spectator Safety is further progression from NVQ Level 2. The NVQ Level 3 Course aims to assess the competence of senior stewards and supervisors at spectator events. Individuals are expected to demonstrate ability in preparing stewards and premises for spectator events, develop working relationships with colleagues and deal with spectator problems and emergencies. Individuals must complete four mandatory units together with two optional units in order to gain a full qualification.

Level 2 & 3 Conflict Management/Physical Intervention (1884)

In numerous jobs, individuals find themselves faced with customers and members of the public who become aggressive and sometimes violent. The aim of Conflict Management is to help individuals recognise when a situation is becoming confrontational and take relevant the steps to calm the situation.
Level 2 Certification in Conflict Management focuses on the following:
Assess And Reduce The Risk Of Violent Behaviour In The Workplace
Identify Behaviour That Indicates An Escalation Towards Violence
Identify Post Incident Support And Report The Circumstances To Provide Information For Personal And Organisational Learning
Level 3 Certification in Conflict Management focuses on the following:
Define Physical Intervention In The Workplace
Methods To Asses The Risk Of Assault
Identify Methods To Reduce Risks Associated With Physical Intervention
Demonstrate Methods Of Physical Intervention

Continued Professional Development (CPD)

Continued Professional Development is a combination of approaches, ideas and techniques that will help individuals to increase their knowledge and understanding within the Private Security Industry. The main focus of CPD is on the results and benefits they bring to both the individual and their employer.
Continued Professional Development is about summarising useful experiences and assessing the practical benefits of what is learned. CPD helps individuals turn accountability into a positive opportunity to identify and achieve their own career objectives.
CPD can help improve skills, prepare individuals for greater responsibilities, boost confidence, strengthen professional creditability and improve creativity when handling challenges. It can create opportunities for individuals in the Security Industry to progress within their job role.

Course Information

3 Day - Standard
There are no formal entry requirements to the Door Supervisor course, however the minimum age requirement for entry into this course is 18.
You will be asked to bring along Identification documents (drivers licence, passport) and proof of address (utility bill, bank statement etc) along with 3 passport size pictures.
